Griechenland wird zum 3. Welt Land [Gastkommentar]

It is obvious to me that, within this crisis, the global power elite sees numbers, not people. If I had to use numbers, in order to detect the people’s opinion, I would use the latest polls. While nearly 70% appears in favor of the euro zone and rejects the solution of national currency, another 70% evaluates the agreement of October the 26th as a negative outcome that shouldn’t be accepted.

DESTROY THE PEOPLE
Although it sounds a bit irrational, I think there is a reasonable explanation. An example may be helpful. At first, I earn a man’s trust by promising a prosperous future. Gradually I start blackmailing and shaking this man down, stating that if he doesn’t agree with my actions, he'll end up homeless and eventually will die of hunger. I use all my power and sources to, everyday and in every way, bombard him with the certainty that for all his woes and misery, there is no one else to blame but himself. At the very moment he decides to react, I increase the intensity of the blackmail. So, apart from the psychological abuse, I start using physical violence. I mercilessly attack him with multiple blows to the head. So now I have a mentally devastated and physically numb man. At that point, I give him an ultimatum. He will have to decide about his future, by choosing one of the two predetermined options I gave him. How objective, unbiased or unemotional will this man's judgment be?

NUMBERS DON'T TELL TRUTH
The reality of the average citizen can be directly influenced by numbers, because everything revolves around money. But I strongly believe that what's even more important than Greece being a country in crisis and severe recession, is the fact that Greece is a country in severe depression. The unemployment rate is reaching a booming 30%, while the suicide rates have tripled over the past two years. But these are just dry numbers. The drama that unfolds in every home, within every person, can’t be described by numbers. Nor can the daily agony of finding a job, or the chance of losing it. A rate can't talk about all these people unable to meet their monthly payments, or securing the basic necessities for their children.

3. WORLD COUNTRY IN EU
Greece is on the verge of a humanitarian crisis, in the heart of civilized Europe. The vision of the unification, turned out to be a pursuit of integrating profits. Socially isolated groups, people with serious health problems, anyone addicted to substances, immigrants, pensioners, the unemployed, disabled, all have been left to chance. Worst of all is that there seems to be no hope for the near future. People are struggling to survive, they protest, march, occupy, but no one seems to listen. The priority of each authority appears to be one and non-negotiable: Numbers.

HOPE, SECURITY OR WHAT?
Yesterday the referendum was called of, Papandreou will not make it, with or without the vote of confidence he will be forced to step down: so what gives hope or secure a solution to the agonizing problems?
Much more are required to restore hope again, than petty maneuvering and the – at all costs – protection of corporate interests. The more the people feel oppressed, the greater the chances of a social explosion with devastating consequences, that no one can accurately foresee. Lately, however, it seems more and more justified, since it derives directly from instinct: A wounded, cornered animal is extremely dangerous.
